Before there was a Hot Mix Entertainment, there was a movement. In the early 1980s, five DJs at Chicago's WBMX 102.7 FM transformed an entire genre of music and the way the world danced. Scott 'Smokin'' Silz was one of them.
As an original member of the Hot Mix 5 — the team widely credited with creating house music and inventing the radio mix show format — Scott toured college campuses nationwide, performed in Chicago's iconic nightclubs, and became a regular voice on WBMX, V-103, and 107.5 WGCI FM.
Named among the 10 most influential DJs in the world, the Hot Mix 5 didn't just shape Chicago nightlife — they created a musical legacy still played in clubs on every continent today.
